Week 2

This week we pitched our commercials to the mentors and received the following feedback:

  • Push the concept in a different direction

  • Define what exactly we want to sell. Having so much going on makes it unclear what is being advertised.

  • Go from a dull environment to a exciting one to show the contrast between the VR headset and the real world.

  • Have the growth simulation physically come from the headset

Below is our new product pitch. We simplified the commercial to really focus on the experience the VR glasses can bring. To emphasize this, we start in that experience from the users point of view. Our commercial will also rely on audio to tell the story. During shot 1, you will hear a voice call to the user telling them to hurry up because they are about to leave. This will trigger the reverse of the plants and symbolize the headset being turned off. This leads to the 2 shots of plants receding and then the 4th shot where the source, the headset, is revealed. The last shot shows the full room and how different and dull it is in comparison to the VR experience.

For this weeks progress I worked on getting a camera track test for shot 1. Since we want it to be from the users point of view, we want it to be the natural movement of someone walking. I downloaded a video from Pexels of someone walking through a forest and did a camera track in Nuke. I downloaded some tree assets and brought those along with the camera into Maya. For next week, I would like to have this camera in the environment we are using.

I also worked on the timing of the vine recession for shot 3 (along with the camera placement and movement) and 4. I think the recession should be fast since it needs to go from a full environment to nothing within seconds, but not too fast to where we can't continue to appreciate the experience the headset created.
